Steins do not have a pour spout as this one does. Your jug was most likely for milk, but could have been used for beer, wine or water. However they only made the lid and it is of britannia not silver. The maker of the jug itself was Dudson and dates to the 1880's period. This is evidenced by the hand scribed pattern number on the bottom and both the brown color and the sprigging used is typical Dudson.
